Due to some rather crazy students in my fifth(!) grade class - we have agreed to install a video camera in my classroom, which was done last Saturday. Of course I told all my classes that they can now have the benefit of having their 'antics' redcorded. The student who has been causing the most trouble walked into class and noticed that I had pushed a small pile of candy wrappers into a pile on the floor. Well...as if programmed to now be the contientious class model, he immediately ran out to grab a broom and humbly proceeded to clean up the mess...all the while smiling into the camera of course! Later in class I did here him saying to himself "He's a pimp...he's a pimp...Well, the kids family moved here from Los Angeles - the 'City of Angels(or is that Angles?) so what can I expect. Trouble is, the parents will defend this kid to the point of threatening me!! How nervewracking!! Do you defend the idea of a 'big brother' operation in the classroom? I'd really like to know...

If it were at the institution where I work, judging from the way almost everything else that's installed in the classrooms works -- air-conditioners, ceiling fans, cassette/CD players, pull-down screens, overhead projectors, electric outlets, etc. -- much of the time it would be malfunctioning anyway. |

I remember student-teaching in a fifth-grade class and I had wished I had a video camera to make the students behave. But, its impossible to have videocameras like that in the states. To hear that a school actually did it is kind of scary. |

Sorry to be a bit pedantic here but "your" is a possessive adjective and "you're" would be the contraction of "you are" that you should have put in your title.
As for the question of having a camera in the room i suppose that, if you've got a bunch of muppets who otherwise won't behave, it might be a good idea especially when parents will always, but always, believe their perfect little angel over the stupid foreigner teaching him/her. |

Hang in there, Paulie! Some day you may become pedantically perfect . . . or should that be perfectly pedantic?
