Just thought i'd let people know that if you're looking for work then the bilingual private schools are often looking for staff (a friend's found a few hours work with a couple). Not sure what the pay is like, they won't want anyone 'til March and they tend to be a way out of town (northern suburbs like San Isidro or Hurlingham) but they may offer contracts and you get long holidays as they run on a standard academic year. These places are carbon copies of British boarding schools where students play rugby and even cricket. Football is deemed too common! There's a list of places here:

Hello again, Matt
if you happen to hear about a job in Santa Fe, drop me some lines, please, not for me (I have enough teaching hours, thanks God! ) but for my husband who is not a teacher but is working as such, in conversation classes at private english institutes.
Have a good day! |

does anyone have info on jobs like this?
I am interested in finding work for March in Bilingual schools in and around San Isidrio... what are the conditions like? What is the best way to get these jobs? What kind of qualifications do you need?
I speak spanish pretty well (haven't perfected the subjunctive yet, but can communicate quite effectively), have two years of teaching experience, did the CELTA, and have a B.A. from U.C. Berkeley. But I'm not British, so is that a disadvantage?
any help would be appreciated.
thanks! |

I too am very curious to know what kind of qualifications you need to work at a school like this. Seems like it would be way better than working in some private language institute. |

I have done more research on this and my understanding is that these schools hire almost exclusively credentialed teachers with experience teaching K-12 in their home country (US or OK, etc.). That being said, if you are a credentialed teacher with more than 2 years experience, you can probably find a job making around US$25,000 per year. There are both American and British schools in Buenos Aires, and they tend to hire teachers from those countries.
If anyone knows anything different, please feel free to correct me. |

So if I became a teacher at an international school in BsAs, I could make $25,000/year???
That would be crazy-good money. |

I just realized that I confused "international schools" with "bilingual schools". Sorry. All the info I posted above applies to International schools. |
