Hi,
I'm new to this forum so forgive me if I'm going over old terrain here... I'm an ESL teacher (British) with a TEFL certificate/ BA in English Lit and about a year's teaching experience in Europe. I'd really like to teach ESL in the U.S but it seems that everyone on this forum feels that jobs are few & poorly paid... and then of course I'm not even a U.S citizen (even though Britain is the 51st state and Bush owes us a favour..!)
I have lived in the U.S before, as an exchange student, so have that on my side but does anyone have a view on just how difficult it would be for a Brit to obtain employment/get a visa if I came over and approached language schools with my cert and resume... ? I was thinking East Coast in particular.
Thanks.

Depends on where you live. For example, in immigrant-heavy areas, you will have more opportunities. In my experience, many jobs that pay well ($20-30/hr) all require professional teaching certification. Mind you, that's in Vancouver. I imagine the US would be similar. |
