How does AEON compare to JET and NOVA. And how much control does one have on placement location?
Also! If you could teach anywhere in Japan where would you teach and why? |

Jet is the best deal in Japan, its run by the government and pays the highest salaries. Aeon is similar to NOVA as a company but seems to have a better reputation among teachers. More holidays, subsidised rent etc.
If you choose Aeon or NOVA you will have some choice in where you go but there is no guarantee. It is more likely you will be in a centre of population though. Jet also asks you for a prefered location but you might end up in the back of beyond. It depends on what you want as far as location goes, i prefer kansai (Kyoto, Osaka & Kobe). The Tokyo thing is too much for some people. Kyushu is supposed to be very nice with Fukuoka as the main city. I think its quite competitive for jobs in Kyushu so Kansai might be a better bet.
If i were to return i would choose Aeon, as they are the best of the big schools. It makes life easy using them as they provide all the visa, housing and set up arrangements. |

Hey,
I got a job with Aeon, the good thing is you get told the location before you accept the position. Generally it seems that people get posted just outside of big cities such as Nagoya, Tokyo etc. Mostly within 20-30kms of big cities. |

I work in the children's division of AEON (Amity), and the thing I like about it is that the company is quite reliable and you are well taken care of. I can't speak for other groups since I've never taught with them, but as someone who had very little teaching experience prior to coming here, I feel I've been prepared well. Good luck with your decision. |
