Every once in a while on Thailand TEFL forums I see references to "Hotel jobs." But what exactly are these? Teaching the staff English? Dealing with English speaking customers and businesses? Or folding towels?
Are these decent jobs? Decent paying?
Thanks! |

Ah thanks. I had never actually seen even the briefest description of what a hotel job was before. I didn't know if it was actually a staff development position or a customer/business relations type of position. |

The positions typically involve teaching members of the hotel staff. This can include working with the housekeeping staff, the custodial staff, the restaurant staff, the front-desk staff and even management.
It's mostly vocabulary and basic listening/speaking skills. With front-desk and management staff, there is some reading and writing, but not a lot. |

Varies by hotel.
Generally you teach some of the staff English, some of the managment will want specific skills training, and in your off-time it's quite likely that you'll be handed other duties as well -- like writing apology letters in replies to customer complaints:

Dear Mr. Schembahcher:
We here at XXX hotel are very disturbed that your maid arrived late this Saturday evening. We've spoken to Noi about this problem and she has said she'll do her best to improve. We also stole 750B from her paypacket and told her the boss deducted it from her pay. Boy was she sad. Hahaha.
Thanks for laughing with us!

or writing signs or something like that. |

Sweet! I think I'll use that letter as a template for all my future apology letters. |

You forgot to tell Mr Schembahcher that you were very pleased to charge his VISA card an extra 2000 baht for the four towels that he stole from his room. |
