Hey Everybody
This is going to sound really stupid, but i was wondering if you need a degree to teach there legaly. I have just graduated from High School have a TESOL degree and also volunteered with a school. I would prefer to teach legaly in Thailand.
Also i was wondering if you need to speak Thai to teach. I cant find any place to teach me to speak Thai so i was wondering if you can learn it there? Thanks |

It's possible but not easy. Let me know if you'd like more info, but it kind of depends on who, where and what you're teaching etc. |

How would it be possible to teach in Thailand without a BA? ...
Where would you teach?.. How would you find a job?... I would think you would probably have to be in Thailand first .. correct?... or could you find a job like this from overseas? |

You supposedly don't need a degree to teach kindy, but it depends on if the school is willing to do what they need to do to sort you out a TL/WP.
Link for how to get a WP without a degree:

^ I hope this is cool to link to TV?
It would be possible 'cos it is possible.
You can teach where you want to teach, although obviously after reading this thread you'll realise it's not easy as it can depends on who, what and where you're teaching.
You find a job, erm by looking for a job. But yes it helps if you're already here (generally).
I hope this helps? |

If you're willing to teach kids then there are a million language schools that will hire you for part time classes. Without a degree you're probably better off on two part time jobs than trying to find that one miracle place that will overlook you non-degreeness and put their name in with yours on the year long visa application.
It's quite possible, though. I knew a guy with a highschool diploma AND a TEFL who was teaching very young kids Monday to Friday at 35k B/ month, pretty respectable for his qualifications.
Fining work at an actual elementary school or highschool will be a lot tougher, and anything that pays more than slave wages (35k a month or less, 300B an hour or less) will be pretty much off limits to a non-degree-holder, as there are plenty of people here with your qualifications, experience, and a degree who are short on money and will want the "better" positions as well.
You won't find a job until you're here and have a Thai cell number. |
