Where are the drama police when we need them?
The guy has a right to ask questions, and even try to teach there if it's legal and his heart is really set on it. The people I met from DRC were extremely interested in education and would probably be happy to have more English teachers in their country. No, they probably couldn't afford to pay for it and yes, it's probably a stupid idea to go there now, but I think jason_seeburn already got the point. No sense in beating it to death. |

Before going to the DRC you should at least familiarise yourself with the risks involved.
There's a US Bureau of Consular Affairs Information Sheet which will give you the latest information. The address is:
travel.state.gov/droc.html
You may not agree with Scot47's point of view, but as a teacher you should know by now how to disagree like a civilised human being.
Take plenty of diapers with you to the DRC, and remember to call momma twice a day. |

Thanks for your support. It sometimes seems that people post questions here but will only acept the information that they want to hear. When they hear something they do not want to hear they become abusive. Is this adult behaviour ?
Okay. Kinshasa is perfectly safe. You can get a cool job earning lots of money and will have a really good time. Kinshasa is a nice, clean, safe westernised city with a well-functioning public transport system. All houses have electricty and running water. And there is a thriving trade exporting tropical fish to North America. If you want to believe fairy stories, beleive them ! |

Being unfavourably compared with your smart digits cut me to the quick, so I knuckled down to some research and finally nailed an interesting site. May I point you in their direction? I'm not trying to palm you off, honest.
As your first posting mentioned the possibility of doing something practical, you might consider contacting
teachenglishafrica.homestead.com/home.html
They're looking for volunteers to teach in the DRC.
However you get there, please be sure to file a report on this forum. |

You could try some lessons in manners before you go to DRC or you will end up as one dead honky. Kiddo I was teaching in Africa before you were born ! (Zambia 1973-1977 and Nigeria 1978-1979) |

There are no jobs in DRC for expatriate teachers of English. End of story. Go if you want but you will not get a teaching job.
But I suppose you do not want to hear that so you are in denial. |

---"hat indeed exists, and that purports to offer jobs teaching English in the DRC."----
You've chosen your words well here A lot of the links from the site appear to be broken, and you should always be suspiciious of a site that asks you to provide infomation before it will give you any.
If you do want to go to what is considered to be the worst city on earth at present, then you could try the aid agencies if you have any qualifications or experience in that field.
Alternatively just turn up. You're not likely to find local contacts over the internet. |
