Where I work we actively encourage students to do extra English practice on line. We even have ready made lessons whereby skills and language are taught part online and part off line in the classroom. Of course, accessibility and technological resources affect this opportunity for some institutions.

To what extent do you encourage your learners to use online English sites or other sites for practice?

Which sites do you tend to value and recommend most?

How far does it affect the motivation of your learners?

Hello vre:

Welcome back. Mr. Green

Over the past few years I've been stealing, collecting, updating & refining a list of weblinks for teachers & students of English. I use many of the websites below on a daily basis (i.e., onelook.com, wikipedia and Doug Harper's Etymology Dictionary) and others less frequently. Just depends on what I need at any given moment.

And "yes" - I do encourage those students who have internet access to log on to these websites and practice on their own. When they find the interactive Hangman games and online quizzes, they seem to be happy to spend a few extra hours studying. It can't hurt, right?

Here it is, once again, for your surfing & academic pleasure:
