I am asking this long-unanswered question for tomorrow's intermediate class. Is the past of broadcast "broadcast" or "broadcasted"?

Both forms are correct in the past tense, but the past participle must be "broadcast".

Irregular verb. Three identical forms for the present, past and participle.
Ditto for "cast": The dice is cast.

Roger, shame on you!

The die is cast.

The dice are cast.

Don't forget, "broadcast" can also be used as a noun:

"Last night's news broadcast went rather well, don't you think?"

Alea jacta est--the die is cast--said by Julius Caesar just before crossing the Rubicon, and a comment with great resonance at this moment.

Clearly it's "the die is cast", but I do not ever remember referring to a single "die" as a "die" during e.g. a family board game involving just one "die". Then, it was always "Give me the dice". But of course, we were only children, apart from my parents.

Also, it's broadcust.
