http://football.guardian.co.uk/comment/story/0,9753,1353008,00.html

The article's quite long so I'm not going to stick it up here.... It's not really a comment or anything, I just found it interesting....

The context is that the Spanish Football manager referred to a French player (who plays in England) as a "Black Sh*t" (or "Negro de Mierda). This understandably caused an uproar in Britain, while Spain appeared to shrug its shoulders and protest that the English media was overreacting.

Does this mean Spain is irretrevibly racist? (I don't think so..... or at least not as bad as maybe made out....)

Does it mean that the English press like to kick up a fuss over nothing? (Well, they do.... but I think they were very justified in this case)

What does anyone else think?

No judgement, I'm just interested in how people see it....

Sounds like trash sports talk---not a big deal..Nothing like using the N-word in America for example.

Not for the English to tell the Spanish what is offensive--in Spanish.

Typical "We Are The World" stufff.

whats the problem, he is black and he is a sh it
well he isnt really, henry is quite a nice fella
but its only words

reminds me of the time that peter schmeicheal called ian wright (quite rightly) a black *beep*, and the little *beep* went for him, as best he could even though peter schm would have killed him,
but interestingly after the game it was revealed that wright called roy keane an irish *beep*, but did keane cry like a baby? no he didnt, its only words, get over it

The FA have gone to UEFA and FIFA to complain about the Spanish. During last night's game the Spanish crowd booed when Wright-Phillips came on for Becks. Anyone with a memory longer than a goldfish surely remembers the behaviour of English fans abroad. Yet they complain of booing. I think the FA are just a bit peeved 'cos they lost last night. Yes, I know Scotland got humped aswell. We're used to it.
