Hey, I've called Chung Hwa Travel Service in Hong Kong about applying for a resident visa and they said that I can get it done express in 1 day if I get there before 11am. Unfortunately this means that my wife and I will have to spend the night in HK. Does anyone know a really cheap place to stay there? Greatly appreciated.

We stayed in Mirador last week! There are loads of cheap guesthouses/hostels but the quality varies considerably. We booked at Vincent Guesthouse but since there was no one there to check us in and after waiting nearly 2 hours for someone to appear, we went to Kowloon Hotel on the 13th Floor. Kowloon was extremely friendly, clean and organised and they charged us 100HK per person for a double room. we were impressed.
The info desk at the airport is great, get them to explain everything and give you maps. They will mark out the route for you.
Its best to get the A21 bus from the airport (HK$33 pp). This bus stops almost outside the door of Mirador mansion. The bus takes about an hour. The train is faster but costs HK100 pp one way.
Check into the hostel then walk down (10 min) to catch the Star ferry (10 min) across to Hong Kong Central. Walk to the Lippo Centre Tower 1, and get the lift to the 40th Floor to the visa office.
We were so impressed by how friendly people were - nearly everyone we asked spoke English and did their best to help us.
Good luck! |

We just got back yesterday. We were going to stay at cosmic guesthouse, but getting out of the mtr a guy wanted to show us his place across the street. We ended up staying there, Taiwan Hotel I think, it was only $150hk for a double with shower, nothing special but it was clean enough and comfortable.
