Is anyone in Ukraine right now, or have a pulse on the local reactions to the election "debacle"? I've read that Yuschenko won the popular vote, but Moscow trying to muscle in their puppet. This wouldn't shock he if found to be true, but I am wondering how Ukrainians are reacting ("business as usual" or otherwise).

Well, here in the Pro-Yanukovich and Pro-Russian East, the results are largely welcomed...and not really surprising. Being pro-Russian, they see their future in the East rather than being more Westernised.
Yushchenko, from the West is a Ukrainian nationalist, and admired around Ukrainian speaking, and poorer Lviv.
It was the exit polls that said that Yushchenko won by about 10%. Even State controlled TV semes to think that he's win but overnight... (!) things changed, as the votes were counted, and the 'official' and counted result says that Yanukovich.
Now, there are mass protests in Kiev about the result by people saying that they'll protest until the result is overturned...but that's not likely to happen..

This is a very interesting election indeed. My Ukrainian roommate was saying BLYAT every other second today. Putin has already congratulated Yanukovich...

A little off topic, but...

I am admittedly biased about this election since I lived in Lviv for 2 years. While teaching there I found that the students (I taught mostly adults) were extremely apathetic about their politics. This, of course, stands to reason considering the country's political history.
I just hope for truly (or at least nearly) fair elections there one day. It is my opinion that Yuschenko is an earnest patriot, as he has survived numerous assassination plots, and would be a nice change in Ykpaiha.
