Hi every one

Another one running from the trappings of suburbia!

I am planning to come to Taiwan in January 2005. After speaking to some people, I have been informed that you have to supply them with a "letter of invitation" when applying for your visa. I assume this is from someone(another South African?) in Taiwan, who will invite you to come and "visit" them, in a letter that they mail to you by speedpost.

If anyone from SA (or anywhere else) can enlighten me on the subject, I would appreciate it a lot!

Also, how much money should be in your banking account when you apply for your visa?

Forgive me for asking these questions. You must have seen them many times before...but everyone has to start somewhere.

Thanks.

My wife and I are leaving on the 21st Nov for Taiwan. We are going to Hong Kong to get our visa's, we still dont know where to go to get them thought. We will be spending a night in Hong Kong just to be sure that we have time to get it sorted. We were told to have 20000ZAR along with a letter from the bank confirming this. We got a friend in Taiwan to fax a letter inviting us to stay with her.

You should trawl through the masses of info on this forum. Some of the advice and background info will be very interesting, and alot of the advise seems to be repeated so you know it's good.

Thats about the depth of our preparation. I really hope its going to be enough. Good luck Bra.

Thanx for the info. I will be applying in Cape Town. Not the easiest place to convince the penpushers to give you a 60 day tourist visa.
Money is not the problem - the problem is the damn "letter of invitation"!!!!

I don't know a soul in Taiwan and will need the damn thing. Desperately seeking a kind-hearted soul who will provide me with such a letter. This obviously does not mean I will come and squat on the kindly soul's doorstep. It's just another formality to satisfy requirements. I'll need the piece of paper only.......

Can anyone help out?

As to Karrenahope and wife...you go guys!!! I'll be tracking your adventures on this board.
