I am going to work in the Guandong province in February and have recently noticed, in the rough guide, how much rain there is during March and April. Has anyone had any experience of this?

I guess allof us who have been in Guangdong lthis year have some experience. What exactly is bothering you? Wet season means it drips, rains or there even is a flood.
But in spring, the major change is that of humidity rising due to the change of the direction of the winds; until early January, the winds come from the NE and are dry; with February or March, they come from Southerly directions, and bring humidity inland. It can be cold (10 degrees) and grey and rainy; the perfect time to catch a cold.

BIg rains occur later when it's hot and typhoons ravage the South China Sea.
