Hey guys

I am wondering which music players you guys use when commuting on the train? I own a Sony MD right now, that records and plays, but after only 8 months, it is already starting to break down on me. I guess I bought a lemon of an MD player. I bought the damn thing in Canada, but lately it has been a pain in the neck. Sometimes it plays, sometimes it records, sometimes it just doesn't read the disc.

I am tired of Sony MDs. My friend owns a Panasonic MD player, and it plays great. I am considering of buying one soon, but I have also hesitated since most of my co-workers have suggested that I buy an I-Pod instead.

I am interested in this as well, and I have about 40,000 yen in budget, so I have a few choices. Which portable players do you guys think has the most bank for the buck (or I guess in this instance, YEN)? I am really fed up with my Sony MD. Anybody else have this experience? I'd appreciate any advice you guys could offer.

Also, I have heard that Big Camera sometimes have deals on MD players, and they sell for less than 10,000 yen. Do you guys know of any store or other electronics department stores that sell MD players at this price?

Thanks for taking the time to read my post!

I am completely in love with my Iriver IHP-140 player. It has a 40GB hard drive which holds 10,000 songs (It can also hold files etc.), is cheaper than an Ipod, has a 12 hour battery life, can withstand a bit of a battering, has an FM radio, has a microphone for use as a dictaphone, can transform into a jeep and is black and cool looking.

One of those may have been a lie, however, the Iriver is well worth investing in; it's changed my little life.

Ditch MDs - a MiniDisc was always a terrible format, even when net MD came out.

I'd say iPod, for sure. It's sexy.

ipod is definitely sexier but let me ask you something; will your ipod look after you when you're sick? Will your ipod cook your dinner? Will your ipod say "I love you" when you've had a bad day and instantly make everything better? Well, my Iriver doesn't do any of that yet but with all the special little features the current model has I can guaran-damn-tee you they're working on it for the 60GB one.

I'm buying the new iRiver system (the h340) tomorrow to bring all my music and audiobooks and pimsleur japanese lessons with me. I acquired an audiobook version of Jon Stewart's AMERICA: The Book and I'm really excited. Not to mention having all the language lessons available at the touch of a button.

I was within moments of purchasing a new iPod but after reading the reviews of all the different mp3 players it sounds like iRiver has better battery life plus all sorts of other neat features. The drawbacks include the complicated interface, but I consider myself fairly tech-savvy and shouldn't have too many problems.

Has anybody used this unit? Am I going to be able to go running with it? I know it's no iPod mini but it's gotta be easier than carrying a discman with me on my jogs.

Thanks

You can buy mp3 sticks...basically a 128mb or 256mb size around 6000 to 10,000 yen. A little bigger than an eraser...very small. They also plug right into your USB slot. Can't get easier. Any computer shop has them now a days.

If you need bigger storage, ipod.

Ipod mini- the new one. It's cheap and cute. It comes in pink and you can get it rinestoned! Not that you may want to do all of that... Very Happy
