I'm self-quoting from another post I wrote here:
"As far as bringing a dog, I would think it wouldn't make much of a dif. Portenos love dogs - *beep* is everywhere on the streets. Perhaps you could photocopy a pic of the dog (and if it's not a huge dog) show how much you love him/her. I have a cat and while she wasn't with me for that time, every apt. I asked about came with the question of pets. They don't really like cats (they don't see cat's as USers do), but go bonkers over dogs that are cute and won't eat the apt. "
I found that most people would accept the idea of a cat, but they never really understood the idea that my cat never leaves the apt. and no one can enter the apt. without my being there.
I didn't actually get an apt. but I felt secure enough to land jobs, etc. knowing that I'd be bringing my cat into country. I simply don't go and or stay in countries where cats are a problem (say, England, Singapore, etc).
As always, find out the laws and print them before entering the country (obviously follow the laws also).
Hope this helps -- my cat has now lived in four countries.

Hope this helps.
I was born in Argentina and lived there on and off for a good part of my life. I can tell you for a fact that although Argentinians like animals, they don't consider them "part of the family", so you'll find that most animals live outdoors. Because of this, you'll have to explain the concept of "indoor-only cat" more than once to prospective landlords, but no, you won't be denied an apartment on the basis of having pets. In big cities, where people live in apartments with no backyards, the concept of indoor cats is a little easier to swallow.
Also keep in mind that you'll have a hard time finding litter, carriers, etc., unless you live in Buenos Aires and are willing to spend good money for it.
I called the Argentinian Consulate in New York and they told me in order to get your pet into Argentina, you need:
1- Rabies vaccine (more than 30 days and less than 1 year old)
2- Health certificate (no more than 10 days old)
3- The health certificate needs to be stamped by the US Department of Agriculture - Veterinary Inspection Section. I don't know what this is but they told me there's one in most major airports. In NYC, where I am, there's one at Kennedy Airport.
Honestly, I don't think they'd even look at the certificates once you get there, but, oficially, that's what you need. |

I don't know about airports, but the USDA is usually found in some obscure place in major ciities. my cat has travelled all over the place (three intercontinental flights this year, in fact) and most of the time the authorities don't check if you have the USDA stamp: yet once they did and I was very very glad I went through the pain in the ass to get the stamp.
Check the yellow pages or the USDA website for the location nearest you. It is by far better to be safe than sorry -- Austria was the only country to ever check mine, but who knows (BTW, when entering any country with a cat dress like a professional and they give you a break on docs).
