I've heard a lot of comments and it has made me wonder what the communitys opinion is.

It would be equally interesting to know the nationalities of the responders and what country they are in to compare to their homeland. Otherwise, all you get is the most generic of answers.

I prefer the everyday culture here and the high culture back home. Especially since there is no high culture here that isn't imported from abroad.

I lived in China for three months, where, as far as I could tell, there's no culture of any kind outside of museums and lip service.

I have no preference, although I do have some trouble with the current country I'm in as opposed to my homeland.

1) There are no talking animals unless you count the residents of the local sports bar.

2) Lamp-posts do not grow out in the middle of nowhere. Any more.

3) No matter how much the humans mistreat us, that slowpoke Aslan never shows up.

Wink

I left my home in Portland, Oregon, USA and came to Mexico and I am never going back there. I don`t like American obsession with stress and time/money. I am happier than I have ever been and can finally realize my dreams here. Or maybe I'll try China too!

It doesn't matter how long you have travelled or lived abroad the biggest piece of baggage is your cultural baggage and it goes with you wherever you go. It gets smaller or bigger depending on your own obsessions or national prejudices, inborn or inherited or even grown en route but it never, ever disappears completely.
then you go home and realise you have it with you still.

Maybe bringing your country's culture to a foreign place is bringing an asset; but your personal character is another thing altogether.

I feel torn between my native home, Australia, and my adopted home, Russia. When I am in Australia I miss Russia and when I am in Russia I miss Australia.
