On 55000 a month and after paying rent, utilities, tax etc, how much are living expenses - given that I am not a big spender? ( I rarely if ever go to night clubs etc)

Also where is the warmest, largest city near a beach?

Koashiung is the warmest largest city near the coast but watch your lungs. How much you can save in Taiwan depends a lot on where you live and what you eat. If you eat Western food a lot don't expect to save much. Rent prices vary so much from place to place no-one could give an estimate but realistically don't think you'll do any serious saving until you have passed the 20 percent tax rate if working legally or maybe just three months.

It is the nightclubs which eat into the most of your money. Even if you only go out once a week you can easily spend $5-10,000 a month. As you are not really into this scene then you will save a lot more easily than others.

Another big aspect on spending is on electronics like expensive cameras, computers and mobile phones. I know a lot of people, locals and foreigners, who insist on buying the newest and most expensive mobile or camera.
