Hello people,
I feel kind of stuck and I'd really appreciate any advice you can offer me.
I graduated from the University of Oregon in June '03 with a BA in Journalism: Advertising.
After that, I moved to Los Angeles to train as a pro wrestler (a lifelong goal of mine) and I worked full-time at a real estate agency.
I was in the US on a student visa (I'm half English/half Kuwaiti) and was able to extend my stay for 1 yr after graduation on a work permit. I couldn't find a way to stay longer than that. So I had to leave the US by October.
I really want to continue wrestling and Japan is a great place for that. I've also always felt it would be great to get the opportunity to teach English in another country.
I'm back in Kuwait now because I had some things to take care of here (passport, etc), but my goal right now is to get a job teaching English in Japan and continue training as a pro wrestler.
The thing is, almost all the wrestling schools are in Tokyo.
Can someone please tell me what course of action I should take to try to make sure I get a teaching job in Tokyo or the surrounding area?
Thank you |

Might want to rethink your choice of name. There is a wrestler already going around using that particular name and I certainly wouldn't want to *beep* with him. |

Yup. As a matter of fact said Triple H just lost his world heavyweight championship in a controversial (gee, aren't they all) three-man elimination match. And wow is he mad!!!!! In the last exciting episode, he wiped out 3 guys (including his tag-team partner) with a steel chair.
Definitely steer clear of this guy. |

So Triple H who decides who wins and who looses in professional wrestling? I've always wondered how they decide how a match is fought and who wins.
I remember Bret Heart getting mad because he was suppose to win the heavy weight title against The heart break kid, but McMann did a deal in secrete with the heart break kid and the ref so the heart break kid won.
If you have any specific questions about getting a job in Japan I will be glad to answer. Do you want to wrestle proffessionally and teach? |

Well, the writers usually have the most say. Their decisions are usually based on how the fans react to the superstars. The top wrestlers usually have some influence too.

Yeah, because Bret Hart was champion and he was leaving for WCW and it wouldn't look good for the WWE if WCW had their champion. Vince knew
that Bret Hart wouldn't agree to surrender his title to Michaels in Montreal so they had to conspire to screw Bret out of the title. There's a documentary on the incident called "Wrestling with Shadows". It's a good one, but is pretty biased.

Well, I'm not really at the level yet where I can wrestle for a living. I want to go to Japan to train more and hopefully start having matches. So, yeah, I do want to teach full-time at this early stage of my development/ career. |

Hay thanks for the infor! Big John Stud was a wrestler from long ago.
I think wrestling was cooler back then. The WWE just took over so Vince has his way forcing some cool wrestlers out of the business. Sting, Ultimate Warrior, Bret Hart and who knows how many others.
If you want to wrestle and teach you probably want to focus on getting a job in Tokyo or Saitama. If you get a job in a small town you will probably have difficulties finding a place to wrestle. Where I live I have to travel far to train in judo.
Again please ask any questions at all. I've been here for over 7 years and have taught at companies, langauge schools and public schools. I like teaching at the public schools the best. |
