I'm coming over to Japan (probably Osaka) around march, and was wondering if there are any websites and stuff with gig guides, info on clubs etc. I'm mainly into hip hop, but also enjoy house, drumnbass and stuff. Actually, whateva goes is all good!
Thanks

Try this book: Tokyo Pub Crawler his & her bar guide by dan riney & Gia Payne. 2002. ISBN 4-99007911-6

That's the best I can do. But most of these will be mainstream.

What's up, I had been wondering the same thing myself. There was a thread on this awhile back, you might wanna search "hip hop" or "club" in this forum. As far as I know, there should be a nice scene in Osaka, I know popping is pretty big in Japan (those dancers have their technique locked). I'm going to Tokyo in January, I'll let you know about it then. Smile

I haven't been out in Osaka, but I went out a bit in Tokyo. My opinion, though, would not be beneficial to you because I personally hate clubs. I just don't get it. There were plenty to go to, though. They are very uncomfortable because everyone is crammed in. Imagine a one bedroom apartment with 100 people trying to dance in it.

What I would like to know is, are there any good lounge-type pubs that anyone knows of? There was this place called Heartland in Tokyo that was really nice, but it was in Roppongi (an area I absolutely despise). I'm not into the whole dancing bit, as most people just look like goofs, but this place was very chill. They had a DJ mixxing with a live Sax player at one point, all improv (or they made it seem like improv). Someone needs to open a jazz club aimed at youth. Everywhere I go now is filled with Middle aged salarymen. Some youth have musical taste too! Just look at what Jamie Cullum is doing for us! There are too many Hip Hop / Techno clubs!

**Edit**

Sorry, that turned into a bit of a rant. I had that bottled up for far too long, I suspect.

Yellow and Womb are world reknown superclubs. Expensive but they book the top DJ's and have the best soundsystems...

Cheers for that.
I was really after any sites that keep up to date with the scene, so I can find out about dj's coming etc.
Anyone know of these?

He's no Sinatra, but I appreciate what he's doing. He has a long way to go, but he's only 21! His first CD came out when he was 19. He hasn't even had the chance to study Music Theory at a university. Imagine what he can be doing in a few years.

What he did to Radiohead's High and Dry, though - shame on him.

The club scene in Osaka is pretty stong. There seems to be always something going on. My problem was that i would find a killer show to go to and would have to work that night. I would look at a magazine on the web called kansai scene. or you could look at the Japanzine. Clubs...look up the underlounge. there are many more in Osaka. I cant remember some of them but I am sure the kansai scene web sight will answer your questions best. Good luck. Osaka is a blast. i miss it
