hello everyone,
i recently ran a search on berlitz to try and get some info on them but didn't find what i was looking for so i'd like to ask anyone who has worked or is currently working for berlitz in the tokyo/yokohama area some questions.
1)can you tell me what the interview is like? what kind of questions are asked? is there some sort of test or lesson demonstration involved?
2)do berlitz act as a guarantor? do they put down key/deposit money on an apartment for new teachers?
3)can you tell me about your experience working for the company? lesson style, teaching materials...etc
i've already checked out their website but there isn't a great deal of info about the schools themselves. anyone else who can give me some useful info is more than welcome to respond.
thanx for your help.

I interviewed with Berlitz a couple of years ago for PT work. A native English speaker sat with me for 20 minutes and asked pretty standard questions for any job interview after explaining a little about how the school works. No demo lesson.

I didn't take the job because I would have had to call in every day just to see if any students had signed up for my time slot the next day, and I didn't like the hourly wage.

Read the Berlitz Blog

Quote:
The action continues
The action continues on the case of the Berlitz instructor who was dismissed with two hours' notice from Tama Centre LC.
Four hundred leaflets were distributed by a crowd of 25 union members from Berlitz and Nova in front of Nihombashi LC, last Friday evening (December 10).
An additional three hundred were handed out by 3 Begunto members in front of Chofu LC on Tuesday at lunch time. Even the IS responsible for the dismissal stopped to take a copy as he walked by.
Public sympathy continues to be warm; passers-by were obviously shocked by the poster stating "fired with 2 hours' notice", and several people stopped to say "gambatte!" or even "kawai-so" ("oh, I feel sorry for you").

Both NOVA and Berlitz are tough companies to work for, for a lot of reasons.

It would be difficult to recommend them as long-term schools to teach full time at.

Microphones in the teachers room, so that head teachers can listen in on teachers speaking to each other was one of the highlights of reading the blog.

NOVA and Berlitz are two of the 'scummiest' language schools in the business, in my opinion.
