I hate to sound desperate, but I am Sad

I am currently in China, with an expired visa. I won't bore you with the details here. At the end of the month, I will have to attempt to leave China, the only place I can go really is Hongkong. The problem is, when leaving China, they may decide to ban for for a certain length of time.

I will be using all my savings here, therefore it is quite impossible for me to fly home. The best thing I could do is to wait out the ban in Hongkong, get a new visa, and return to my new job in China. While there I would have to find some sort of temporary job, I'm sure this is not difficult, but remember I don't know the city.

I am calling on anybody who might be able to help me out with a spare sofa or a few contacts in schools.

Thankyou so much.

I am sorry to hear of the unfortunate circumstances in which you find yourself.

The only people who might offer charity for homeless people are Christian organisations, but they would only approve of temporary work with proper legal documents.

Hong Kong is unlikely to be the best place for you given the situation that you describe. It is difficult to get jobs here, and the interviewing process takes time, and employers don't offer accommodation, and the cost of living in HK is very high compared to where you are coming from.

Would you not be better off to spend your savings in Vietnam or Thailand or the Philippians or Indonesia or Cambodia?

I would further add that foreigners in China should beware of taking up low paid work (less than rmb10,000 per month) in China because a year's PRC-savings will last about a month in HK or Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada, Europe, Taiwan, Japan, ... so if you can't go home, and can't find a new job quickly, or can't find someone to help you out from between your rock and your hard place, then you will be goosed. If the China-experience doesn't make you a better person and the China-experience will probably exhaust you or destroy you so that you won't be able to work elsewhere.

I woul have to concur with Echo.

HK is not the place for someone on limited savings.

AS for countries which offer a low cost of living, Thailand and Vietnam come to mind since they oth have an ESL market.

In the Philipines, thereisn't really an ESL market.

As for low cost transport out of China, they have a train service that seems to connect to everywhere.

Best of luck.

Chris
