The above prolific and often controversial poster to this forum has resigned. Please read his statement on the MW Forum thread. I for one believe we will be poorer for HC's absence. His imaginative interpretation of what constitutes the English language, and his willingness to offer a strongly ego-centric opinion on any posted subject [except EFL teaching] was a constant source of interest in my early morning surfing.A forum needs a broad range of opinion, and Hubei Canuk certainly stretches the parameters.I vote we beg him to come back!

I agree with minhangoz on this. HC is a good contributor to this board. Don't know the whole story so I won't comment (too much.) Retire??? Are we supposed to announce our retirement???

He seems to have issues though and I respect that. Good luck to ya!!!!

If the HC is the Johnny I know and helped him to get a job in Shenzhen, coming from Korea, his retirement is a good thing, though by now he is perhaps 25.

He was very good in trying to squeeze money out of any ESL situation and saving money too was his forte.
He once asked me out for dinner and boasted that the place we were at was the cheapest around.....true, all true!

Personal but public to Hubei Canuck -

(This way he does not have to post a private message!)

No man is an island. But, if you continue your isolationist policy, at most you will become a rock in the middle of a navigation lane.

In a different thread you assumed the power to transfer ownership of this forum to me. (A bit presumptious on your part!)

Accepting your abdication of power and assuming my new power, I have given careful consideration to your letter of resignation and as the new "boss around here" as so designated by you and you alone, (nice move little rock!), YOUR RESIGNATION IS HEREBY REJECTED and everyone expects that you will continue to serve your own interests, above all else, by continuing to make your contributions to this forum.

We need you man!! This world is made up of opposites, black - white; night - day etc. Different strokes for different folks. Without you this forum just would not be the same and your detractors would lapse into boredom.

Keep up the good work.

Now for some bad news. Due to your letter of resignation we will redress the insult to us by reducing you in pay and food ration. After all, this is China!

Don't go!

Then I'd be forced back into the realm of ATV & TVB afternoon cartoons for entertainment.

Hubei-canuk,

What a nancy-boy you are! I know you are still upset about Ronald Reagan firing you as his speech-writer, but its time to move on in life. Laughing

Take 2. My last comments were 'moderated' off this thread.

HC, let's all learn something here. Let's get it into some form of perspective. Right now SARS is a major issue and some of us need to stay up to speed with what's going on, so we come here to exchange info.

Others are curious about a range of non-SARS related issues or just need a break from work. I guess the reasons we come are many and varied.

There's a place for fun, disagreement, nearly everything on a forum like this, but the issue raised by MW in the 'Censorship' thread is showing that at least for today a growing number of posters are tired of insult and low-brow invective that passes for comment. It seems to be in the hitting back that the moderator takes action, which I think is way too late, but we can't expect the moderators to be on-line 24/7. Neither can we expect them to be consistent. My (moderated) comments were incredibly mild compared to a lot of HC's comments.

I'm glad you're gone (in your present form) but would be really glad to see you back in another form. Self-censorship is the best censorship. Some of the links you gave were really good; but we had to wade through too much muck to get at the pearl.

Mark Twain's 'The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn' had a few poignant things to say that some of the 'hit and run' tribe could learn from.

One character, the Colonel, taught his sons that it was cowardly to hide behind a bush and 'pepper away' at people. Step out into the road; put your real name where your electronic mouth is.

Buck, a new friend of Huck's, talked about his brother who was shot. He turned his horse around 'so that the bullet holes would be in the front'. My point in mentioning this is that HC asked for it and got off lightly. Peppering away at others and then riding off with some small bore buckshot in his rump.

Now let's see if I need to go to Take 3.

Cheers guys, and let's move on soon.

Newbie on this forum, but not on others.

The interesting thing about forums is they make an ideal platform for freedom of expression.

but... there will always be a drive to erode this through applying rules and limits , albeit for a worthy reason.

The same keys will open the gates to both heaven and hell.

Why is there even a question that this HC chappy should leave the forum?
