i'm looking to find things for an apartment cheaply when i get to japan. a few people have told me about gomi days. when are they and how can one find them? |

It depends on the area you live in. Just check outside in your area and dig around what people threw out. |

Look out for the 'sodai-gomi' (big rubbish) days, when people throw out furniture, old chairs etc. Some of the stuff is useable, but mostly its junk. Usually it will be once a month or so but the day varies depending on the neighborhood. The ward office will be able to tell you when soda-gomi days are, and if you are in a large mansion apartment you will probably see piles of furniture, bookshelves, old futons etc on the pavement out front or in some rubbish assembly place. |
