i have an opportunity for a job in shanghai. everything looks good, but one major concern is our dog.

we're currently living in thailand, where we've bought a golden retriever. now leaving her behind in thailand with the in-laws is an option, but i would prefer to bring it. the guys at the school are checking to see if the apartment block allows pets, but what i would like to know is if anyone has any info about quarantine restrictions and dog licenses.

please help me out here. i have to decide pretty soon on this job, so i need all the info i can get asap! Embarassed

For INFO from a goodly number of dog owners in Shanghai, I suggest you visit
www.thatsshanghai.com
>>Classified >> For sale

Under the guise of someone interested in buying their dog, write asking for License INFO etc.

I'm no expert, but in Shanghai, I got my own dog from the Want Ads. The then-owner told me:
*an official license cost arout 3000RMB
*he didn't have one
*he didn't take his dog out much

Here at/around Sichuan U., it's a dog utopia...no licenses no leashes...Going for dog-walks, being a foreigner...brings attention and smiles...

Good luck in Shanghai...

we brought our dog along and it was not problem; the darn thing is so small that they did not even notice it at customs. I suggest talking to the chinese embassy where u at and get the dog as many shots as you can.

When you get into Shanghai international, you will be given an option to quarantine the dog at your home if you already have a work visa.

I brought my pet into China, got the necessary shots and when I passed through immigration and customs no one even noticed.

There may be an in-house quarantine of 45 days where a vet comes to your home once or twice to check on your animal. Or you may be told that you must keep your animal at home for 45 days and not bring her out.

My only concern would be with the dog license - I know it can be very expensive.
