Hi,
after having not really a good time here in China, I am thinking about going back to Japan and would appreciate if anyone can connect me to the right place/school.
Although German, I worked here in China for 2 years as an English-teacher for colleges, universities and hospitals - my speciality is Medical English (studied Biology and did a lot of research in the area of biomedicine).
So, where can I work as German and/or (Medical) English teacher in Japan?
Every suggestion is welcome!
Regards,
Ralf |

Ralf, it is very hard for non-native speakers of English to get sponsorship of a visa to teach English full time, though its possible to get jobs teaching German and then branch out into English classes. Try NOVA and Berlitz for German teaching openings.
Universities generally require a Masters in a related field to get teaching jobs but with good connections and if you have the right skills you might get work at a medical university. Medical universities do advertise on occasion (I applied for one last year and got on the short list) but most jobs are only advertised in Japanese. |

Dear Paul, thanks for your remarks. Well, hope that you or somebody else reading this can connect me with one Medical University. |

Not sure about connecting you, as people dont really offer jobs to complete strangers on the Internet. You also need to be available for an interview and meet the hiring requirements.
I can show where to look for postings and you can make enquiries. generally speaking cold calls are not done here, and they will accept applications in response to an advertised job posting.
Will PM you with some leads. |

Ralf,
If you want to teach at universities in Japan, you will usually need a minimum of a master's degree, often in Education-related fields like linguistics.
What is your background/education? |

Hi there,
I have a PhD degree in Biology, worked several years as Post-Doc (incl. 2 yeas in Kumamoto, Japan) and are currently employed as Associate Professor at Zhejiang University School of Medicine in China. Do research on drug addiction, and teach part-time English at colleges or hospitals (Medical English here). Was considered for a profesor position at Saga (Kyushu) University some years ago, but rejected cause I was German and thus not native English speaker .
Hope it helps,
Ralf |

You were rejected before for not being a "native-English speaker". It will most likely happen again if you attempt the same.
After living and working in Japan for a couple of years don't you think you could find work in your specialty? |
