Don't be depressed, you really don't have time for that because you have to look for a new job. Have you contacted the Education bureau in Sz. See my PM to you.

I hope they lose students as a result.

I would tell as many parents as I could that the Filipino teachers are not native English speakers. I'm also willing to bet that your boss tells parents that they are "American" or "Australian" born Filipinos.

Hell, I'll even help you.

Just copy/paste this and print it out on paper. Then hand it out throughout the neighbourhood and to parents when they come to get their kids.

Do this at the last day of your last class.

Basically, it says:

Hello. I'm the foreigner teaching your kids. I have been fired, so I want to say goodbye to you all. I will miss my students very much. but because I care so much about my students, I want to offer some advice.

After I am fired, the only English teachers will be Filipino teachers. They are not native English speakers. They learn English as a second language just like Chinese or Koreans do. They have Asian accents just like Chinese teachers do. They do not know all the English words like a mative speaker does. They are good teachers, but not native English speakers. Because of this fact, they are paid less per month than a native English speaker.

The reason my boss is firing me is to save money. But this only lowers the quality of English education for your child. If you like this kindergarten and want your child to still come here, I suggest you tell my boss to lower the tuition or fee you pay for your child to come to this kindergarten. That is more fair for you.

I only tell you this because I care for my students and their education and I will miss them very much.

I wish you all the very best for the future and I hope you have a happy Spring Festival.

Oh good grief! What next! The Chinese, and particularly Chinese owners and managers of language schools are so short-sighted when it comes to business. Don't get me started. Yes, I'm with Whiner. I hope they lose all their students as a result of this stupid, stupid-as* decision and I hope you're in a better position soon so that if they ask you to come back you can tell them to shove it!

Do you by any chance have a valid contract that is ending by January or is it still enforceable after the first of the year....clay

I really like your idea Whiner but worry that Mandu might be singled out if the school catches him/her circulating such leaflets or if a parent describes him/her to school officials--by "singled out" I mean blacklisted or if the school has any connections to Chinese gangsters, worse. I did stuff like that before with schools and know other teachers in the US who did similar stuff like try to unionize etc. and school owners all know each other and can get pretty nasty to teachers who do stuff like that. Just a warning.

GWoW:
What you are doing is basically inciting people to be racist towards Filipinos - some of the kindest and gentle people to be friends with. It's not their fault what the school decides.
I hope that Mandu finds gainful employment in another place that will respect her talents and put teaching over financial considerations.
My old place of employment decided to get rid of the Canadian (program) managers and replace them with Brits (who had neither management abilities, knowledge of the programs they were to direct, nor any experience in China). The decision was solely based on kow-towing to the useless university that was to issue the degrees. I disagreed with that decision and quit.
I didn't advocate advising the parents that the money-grubbing *Nationality* management had decided to replace the experienced Canadians with unqualified and inexperienced people, rather, I sit here happy and content every time I hear of another disaster that has befallen that organization.
S**t happens. Life goes on.

Sinobear, I see we're both in Purgatory together. Maybe we should get together sometime for a latte.

I don't agree with the comment about racism against Filipinos. The note that GWoW posted seemed to be anti-school and actually states that the Filipino teachers may be good teachers, just not native English speakers. If the school is indeed trying to save money by hiring from another country, then so be it. But it also seems like they are trying to screw over the other FTs already employed there AND the parents who bring their children there. There is too much corruption and cutting corners in this world as it is; I applaud anyone who wants to play whistle-blower.

And for those Filipinos who can speak flawless English without an accent?
A little bit of dignity goes a lot further than sour grapes.

Mandu,

There are plenty of English jobs, and there are plenty of kindy and young learner positions. If you came to Hangzhou, I would literally have you working tomorrow.

I see all the time positions of Dave's and elsewhere. The reason you are unemployed is that you are not looking. Not to mention that you are next door to Hong Kong.

Come back when you have a problem.

I am sorry, but I find this suggestion utterly perfidious and disgusting. Why play up so-called "nativity" to the detriment of someone else? Does it confer upon you more competency in teaching the lingo? I know that this is NOT the case!

I deplore Mandu's dilemma, but I thoroughly disapprove of such bad-mouthing tactics. Most Filippinos make for equally good techers as so-called "native English speakers" do, some for better ones due to their education.

I personally wish Mandu the best of good luck and a better job in future, but I hope he is not resorting to such despicable branding!

On a final note: how could Mandu lose his job without any compensation? Did he get his airfare paid out? If not, why not? Was he working illegally?
I hope not. BUt if he has been working here on a business visa, then perhaps this serves as a lesson: don't cooperate with slimy employers who bend the law in every which way.
They don't hesitate to bend it to your detriment!

hello me again
just clear some things up when i wrote about not having a job next term i was angry at the time.

after thinking about whats happend.well to start with its not the principles idea to bring in filipino teachers to the kindergarten.the big boss that owns all the kindergartens its her idea.
i think that flipino teachers a very good and they work very hard.
and yes iam on a business visa but all the western teachers are on buiness visas

Iam not angry at my situation and i know i can find another job.also to i feel that having a teacher in the class that can speak english with the children all day is a good idea.
i have been on a work visa before and plan to do so at my next job.
