Even though I had a residence permit (green book) that was good until next year but the company I worked for insisted that I get a new residence sticker that goes in your passport...no more green book....which will make it hard for employers who try and keep the "green book" to insure against "midnight runs". Now from what I understand from the PSB, I no longer need a "re-entry visa" when I leave the country. The sticker is good for one year as was the green book...and can be used in the same way as the green book..for ID...check in to hotels....drivers licence applications...and so forth. What I wonder is that Chinese law states that any official paper has your name in Chinese and the new sticker doesnt...even joining an "air mile" club in China required you to fill the application out in Chinese...as so many applications and places. I wonder if this will cause any difficulties such as registration of motorcycles...on all tag regs, I have my name in Chinese and they copied it off the "green book" (you have to have residence status before you can registar a bike, car or get a drivers licence)...anyone else have the sticker...

Same situation. My driving licence and bank accounts use my Chinese name, which now has no official tie to my English name. Would be interested to know what this means in practice.

I'd never heard that Chinese names have to be used on official documents... just noticed that there's never enough room on forms for an English one.

The only documents that are official iare the Chinese language ones....for example the Official Foreign Expert contract and the Chinese language add.
Also there is no school listed or address....

You are our prized guinea pigs, buddies! Congratulations...

I suggest you have these docs translated and authenticated by a notary public. Then you will probably be allowed to do as any crazy moneyed Chinaman does - drive a Mercedes sans chauffeur!
