I need advise.

How good is it to go to Vietnam? Is it friendly to foreigners and people of darker complexion (black people)?

I'm in India now and was planning on going to China directly, but Vietnam seems like a place to go.

How easy it it to cross the border into China from Vietam? Does one need yellow fever shots to do so?

Any advise would be appreciated.

You might get a few more looks than light-skinned foreigners but generally if you've got money to spend you'll be warmly welcomed. Even those who do gawp at you will be doing it out of benign curiosity rather than xenophobia or racism.

Hello:

I agree with windup bird yet again...this place totally rocks...I did not do it myself but I have met a few who did China for a few months and then came down across the border into Hanoi and then further down...these people are remarkably friendly...have a bud that came last year and he is African-American and he had no problems here either...hit Hoi An if you like to shop...Saigon is good for a couple of days as is Nha Trang if you like the beach...heard Hanoi was good for a few days but leave yourself some flexibility...my plane leaves in a few to go back to Bangkok (unfortunately) so I gotta run but good luck man...

If you want a good beach, give Nha Trang a miss & head for Mui Ne - cleaner, quieter, no hawkers & generally less in-yer-face.
