I'm reading these posts re: Vodaphone bills, and other phone stuff but i haven't seen any info on whether there is such a thing as Pre Paid Mobile Phones in Japan... do they exist? If so, what are the cheapest / best pre paid companies to go with in J?

The future of prepaid mobile service in Japan is questionable. DoCoMo has already dropped such service and the government is looking into outlawing it based in large part on crimes involving such phones. |

I have one from Vodafone. It's great!
The way it works is that you buy the phone for about 7,000 yen and then put credits on it- 3,000 yen at a time. Sky Mail (short texts) are 5 yen each and Long Mail is 15 yen each. Phone calls are high though- 60yen per minute. You have to add credits to your phone every couple of months or your phone will stop working.
Very pain free and no confusing phone bills to figure out!! |
