|
|
My New Years resolutions as related to this board are the following:
1. I will try to say positive, encouraging, helpful things to other posters
2. I will try not to be deliberately mean in the spirit of "having fun"
3. I will try to understand where another poster is coming from before automatically assuming he/she's being offensive.
4. I will shy away from calling other posters "wrong," or demeaning them in other ways, remembering that we all have
our own set of experiences we bring to this board and not everyone has the same ideas or opinions I do.
5. I will try to remember that disagreeing with me is not the same thing as flaming me.
6. I don't always have to get the last word/post in. Sometimes it's better that peace is maintained rather than me getting a petty dig in.
7. I will try to grow a thicker skin for this forum.
Probably I will have broken all these resolutions already by January 2.
What are some of YOUR New Years Resolutions? |

mine boil down to one question:
If I die tomorrow, have I said all I can say?
I want to be sure that starting now, I can answer yes to this question everyday.... I'm gonna try to drop smoking cigarettes for the umpteen time or even better, try not to start smoking again after I quit. |

I have a few resolutions.
Weeks, heck months before having to leave China and stay in Canada for a year I knew I'd go through what most people post about here: the "return home". So with only 3 days now I can feel the beginning stages of reverse culture shock coming at me like a tidal wave. With that in mind, I am determined to keep up contacts with friends and students back in Shanghai. Also, I want to increase my Chinese level and take up Chinese cooking classes.
Those will be the 'big 3'. Others include dropping 15 pounds, finishing my degree successfully, and making the best adjustment here that I can.

1. Spend more time with my baby daughter (because my wife and parents-in-law complain that I spend too little time with her as it is!)
2. Spend less time looking at Dave's (because my wife and parents-in-law complain that I spend too much time on it as it is!)
3. Spend no more time thinking about silly resolutions, which I wouldn't keep in my right mind, anyway ... (I am not saying that resolution #1 is silly, BTW...)
Happy New Year, fellow Dave's posters! |

nolefan, I know where you are coming from. Giving up is easy it's the not starting again that I have problems with. So year number 10 for giving up smoking. |

Yes, but which husband has a wife and parents-in-law who don't complain rather a lot?! |

To start drinking. I am being serious...a little. Just sort of stopped about a year ago...
Got bored of drinking and also, no matter how many pints of beer I'd had the night before, I always woke up the next morning thirsty and dehydrated.
So here's to starting drinking in the new year!!! |

Denise, you must be Canadian, and from the West Coast at that. The only place I've ever heard wiggin out. |

Like CS I've also had a couple of months off drinking. I am looking forward to resuming normal service in a couple of months.
Its interesting to note that I feel just as crap in the mornings even when sober 24/7, 7 days a week.
Although I think my muscles have grown since I stopped - does drinking have a wasting effect on body muscle? |

Yup, except on the ones that bend the elbow. |

Resolutions:
1. Fewer posts on Dave's in 2005 than in 2004.
2. 2 publications and present at a conference.
3. Spend lots of time with my new baby that is due in 2 months and with my 3 year-old.
Yes Denise, what is wiggin out? Must be a California thang. |
