Hey folks
I am coming to Turkey (yet again) and will be in Istanbul for a couple of days. While there I'd like to visit some schools to see if they're hiring now or later, so where in the city is the best place to stay? I'm sure everything is very scattered and stretched out, but if you have any info on where to stay and where to go (schools) I would appreciate it.

I'll also be in Ankara after that....

I just visited Istanbul for the first time in December. I stayed in Sultanahmet at a hostel called "Sinbad Hostel". The Hostel was OK... They gave me a double room for the price of a single because at the time I was the only one staying in the hostel. That was kind of strange. The room was clean, sheets looked somewhat clean, the bathroom was clean. The staff was friendly and spoke english relatively well. I felt it necessary to talk to the staff about my day before I headed to bed. This wasn't a bad thing, they were just really interested and caring. Different than any other hostel experience I've had. Anyway, I would bet that most of the hostels in Sultanahmet are the same quality.

I got around to many places in Istanbul and I would say I always felt refreshed coming back to Sultanahmet. A lot of people on this forum prefer the Taksim area, maybe because of the nightlife, etc., but I would have to say it's not the most attractive of places. Taksim square is nothing to speak of as far as aesthetics go. Although, I really like the other areas of Beyoglu... especially just across the Galata bridge.

can anyone tell me which area of the city is best to stay in if one wants to make the round of schools, language schools, etc. I'm looking for something central to these things...

I realize they're all spread out, but which area would have the most concentration of language schools? I don't want to spend all my time walking....

Hi mongrelcat, you're right to think that jobs are spread out all over the place. Yet the fact is that their not. You could say that there are three key areas with concentration of language schools. On the Asain side most of the centers are in Kadik�y or along Bagdat Cad (which is near Kadik�y). The Euro side should be seen as two different areas split along West and East bank of the Golden Horn. The old Christan area of Pere or Beyoğlu, Şişli, Beşiktaş and so on. Most of the Centers are in Bey�ğlu or within a short cab ride of it . The old city side along Kennedy road towards the airport. The key area here is Bakkirk�y (?) other areas near by are Floıya (?) (near the airport), Av�ilar and beyound. If you ask me the best place to find work in a concentrated manner is the Asian side.
