I think you are overestimating the value of your mainland experience! It's worth zero. Did you function in a professional environment in the mainland? I doubt it. And most HK employers know that.
In HK, you would have to teach more challenging parts of English than on the mainland; students are more communicatively endowed and will not hesitate to ask you the difference between the past perfect tense and the simple past tense!
To my knowledge, most positions at training centres are occupied by part-timers with aa HK ID card. |

Caiwuwei, is it? Diwang Tower? Yes, I know where that is. What's that to do with quals or exp.? Was your would-be HK employer a genuine Hongkonger born in HK, with a HK ID card? Or just a mainlander arrived there over the last 7 years?
The kind of experience you need for a HK school you get in a western country, not in China.
In HK, white faces are not the defining mark of a FT. You need to be able to do a little more than just to entertain and keep your paying students happy. As I said, you will have to deal with highly tricky linguistic questions. Do you ever answer grammar questions in the mainland?
If yes - you know that this is not the norm. Mainlanderrs don't assume you are competent in that! Hongkonger on the other hand expect you to be competent! |

Te question regarding salary is like "How long is a piece of string?"
The reason is;
A B.ed or an M.A. / M.Ed can apply for work with either the NET scheme, colleges and universities.
Without the above, then you are looking to the private sector.
This is varied in many different ways.
Part time contract based work can be $15K for a few hours a day. or even fulltime at soem 3rd rate agency working every hour available.
The bottom line is, in H.K. qualifications are the difference between the private sector hell and stable, reputable teching positions. |
