|

I'm planning to travel to Thailand in mid-January and, after the terrible disaster, am trying to arrange my trip to unaffected areas. As far as I can tell the west coast is unaffected as the impact was mainly on the east coast; is this correct? I will be there for about five weeks and am planning to travel north & south. Places which I've read about and appeal to me are: Ayutthaya, Kanchanaburi, Cha Am, Hua Hin, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Khao Sam Roi Yot, Ko Samet, Ko Phangan, Chiang Mai, Sukhothai, Rayong, Koh Chang & Nong Khai. Sorry for the long list and any possible mis-spellings but I'd really appreciate any views & advice on accommodation for anyone who knows these places. I'm looking for rest & relaxation, beautiful scenery and nowhere too hectic and full of people. I would also like to know if people think accommodation may be a problem in unaffected areas as people take their holidays elsewhere due to the events of last week. This holiday has been planned for some time and the flight is non-refundable, so I'm just trying to make the best of a difficult situation. |

Why would you avoid some of the affected areas? People still work for a living and need least at this moment to have all the tourism disappear. It is how many earn their livings. I think you'll find that many places will rebuild quickly. Beach shack restaurants (half of why I am here!) - are just shacks and will be rebuilt within weeks if not days. Every where I drive on the island is right now in the process of cleaning up and rebuilding.
Phuket, at least, I am sure - would welcome you. Remember, in most places it is only the first 100 meters or so that have been hit hard. Some places much more - but you'll find the beaches and sea just as lovely as they always were.
As I am sure that many tourists have cancelled their visits - you might check out latestays.com
(try this link: http://www.latestays.com/?c=Thailand&l=phuket )
for Thailand and I bet you'll find some sudden bargains.
Anyway, I am suggesting that you not bail out on the people who might most need your visit. Your personal pleasure - I am sure - will not be diminished in any way. |

Actually, it's just the opposite. |

Sorry, I knew that. Getting my east and west mixed up! Before the disaster I had no intention of visiting Phuket so won't be going out of my way to go there now. However, I would like specific information from people who know about the areas I mentioned.
Thank you. |

I found out it'd be way more money to stop in another place via plane cause I am all on one Plane company as of now- so I have to train/float it to another country by Thailand. any ideas?
OK so I thought I'd post this so you all can greet me at the airport upon my arrival- Just Like Bonny Prince Charlie- Please have a limo waiting - Is there some wonder place in Thailand I should visit? Like ahhh you know in the US you must see Old Faithful, and that big ditch in AZ the Grand Canyon.
So I thought I'd post and just put the word out that I might be on yer block soon- and if any of you wants to meet for hopscotch / coffee you could post here / pm me. this is sort of from the question and answer forum thing http://www.eslcafe.com/forums/korea/viewtopic.php?t=30797
but I thought I'd copy it here cause it would be cool to meet up with some of you in yer lands / city maybe.
Koa Tao Island in Thailand http://www.kohtaoonline.com/ is fine cause it's on the East side of Thailand -that's where I will be at- from Bangkok I'll shame train or loco train it down to Chumporn than ferry away to my snorkel paradise- I think some of you might be out there too- will you see me? Will I see you? I hope I am not abused and beaten by a gang of Ausie surf girls in Bali- they get mad at goony boogie boarders who steal their waves. I doubt I'll stay long in Bangkok- but maybe there are some huge extensive /current bookstores I should go to that beat out any in Seoul for English novels / current non-fiction. |
