I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this particular university. I am considering teaching beginning in August. Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated.

I had a friend that worked at DUT while I was in Dalian for a couple of years. Overall they seemed to be pretty straight, here is what I know about them.

The campus is very far from downtown but there is regular bus service (the 405 I think?) It's right next to the airport so you can watch air traffic all day. There are few flights if any past 9:00 at night so don't worry about the noise.

The campus is ok by Chinese standards, students are typical, administration was straightforward and lived up to the contract.

His housing was in a foreigners' type dorm. He had a large living room/bedroom with nice private bath; communal kitchen but as he was the only teacher there at the time this was nothing big.

The area around the campus itself is a little stark and dusty, lots of tiny "Mom and Pop" style restaurants on the road leading to the campus. Gates were locked at 10:00 so if you plan on staying out late you'll need a place to crash in town but this is very common at Chinese unis.

Kendall,

My uni, Dalian Maritime University, is around the corner from DUT.

It is a well respected university.

JamesD had some good points. It is about 30 minutes from downtown by bus, the 406 and 502 both stop at the gates of DUT. There is alot of construction in the area and it is a bit dusty at times.

We are not that close to the airport, in fact I don't think I heard a plane all year.

Campus seems pretty typical, not sure about the curfew. Spoke with an Aussie teacher there, she had her own apartment. She was married with two kids; she was a little cramped for space.

Hope this helps!
