Hi everyone!

Have you ever lived or known anyone who has lived in Himeji? I'll be moving there in late January after deciding to accept a job with Peppy Kids Club. So far, things are falling into place and PKC's HR department has been really useful in helping me get all prepared to go.

I'm a Canadian making a big life change, and I thought it might be a good idea to poll the masses on opinions and points of interest about Himeji (besides the castle). Anything that you guys can contribute will surely help with the whole culture shock thing. And if there are any ex-pats in Himeji that want to meet the newest foreigner in town, I'll be there soon after a brief stay in Nagoya.

Thanks a bunch! Looking forward to it!

Not much to do there, but the populace is very nice. I know someone who lives there right now as a third-year JET. The only things to do on the weekend are go to Himeji-station area, or go to JusCo. Other than that, it's a mellow town. If you want to get out you can take a 40 minute train ride to Kobe. There is plenty to do there. You will probably find yourself there multiple weekends in a month.

Excellent. I'm also going for the experience, and the opportunity to work on my Japanese. I'm truly excited, as I hear that there's much in the way of culture to explore.

They have a nice history museum there. Every day at 3 different times, they let one lucky guest dress up in a samurai costume or kimono and have their picture taken. I was pretty jazzed about it, anyway.

I suppose travel is what I was after when I decided to do this. I probably won't be able to afford too much travel in my first few weeks there, but then again, I think it'll take some time to get used to the new surroundings anyway.

Thanks for the info, guys.
