So what's everyone up to for the eve of the 31st?

Me, I am off to Garibaldi with a dozen grapes, to try not to pay too much for as many mariachis as I can get into a circle around my wife and I.

Ben, what's the gig in Merida like?

Most locals spend the first part of the evening with their families (big dinner) and then many go out for all-nighters: parties, discos, clubs, etc. Lots of fireworks all night long. I usually stay home. Far too many drink-and-drivers on the streets attempting to get from party to party.

I'm probably going to be asleep. I spent much of last night at the police station as the only Spanish speaker they could find on very short notice.

As of today...it's still here, Guy!

Happy New Year to absolutely EVERYBODY on this forum.

I slept in until 9:45, then sat in bed for another hour and a half, and have just enjoyed my first brunch of 2005, warmed up leftovers.

And Thelma, contributing to the delinquency of minors, tut, tut. Cool

I spent the first half of the evening with Mr. Twisting and toasted the New Year and talked about how we could be kinder to each other in 2005--you know, married couple, old fogie stuff. BTW, Paulie, r u married?

Now, I am off to a party at our pastor's house. As it won't involve alcohol, I have to bring my own, clandestinely, of course....don't tell... Embarassed Part of that "twisting in the wind" stuff, Paulie Laughing

Happy New Year to absolutely all out there in Latin-America-Land

Since I don't live all that far from the Caribbean, would you like me to see if I can pick up one of those little dolls for you? Seems those from that area often work a little better.

I HOPE they work better!

However, Guy needs to consider the reality that intermittent reinforcement is much stronger than either consistent positive or consistent negative.

We spent the day cooking--for which I have received criticism on this forum, but I continue to insist on the benefits of SLOW FOOD (aka GOOD FOOD). Three of the kids went to the church to the early evening mass, and returned with a blessed candle that continued to flicker its light until late last night when someone finally blew it out.

We spent the late evening until midnight eating a delicious meal.

Yesterday some of us took the pickup and spent the afternoon at our rancho in the hills, Las Pericas. When we arrived, there were maybe a dozen white cranes posing in the trees....

Guy--I guess I should translate what I wrote: When you pay attention to someone now and then he/she is more likely to keep hanging around than if you rejected him/her all the time or gave him/her attention all the time.
