I'm inching closer to sending out resumes, filling out applications, etc. My goal is to be in NE Asia (I'm focusing on Japan and Korea) by early May, or thereabouts. This sounds like a reasonable time frame, based on what I've been reading here. Something interesting landed in my lap this afternoon, though. I was asked to consider a 9-week work assignment in Costa Rica. If it were to eventuate, then I'd aim to be in J or K sometime in July. Although the schools advertise themselves as hiring year-round, I wonder: is there a definite better or worse time for applications? Would a July ETA harm my chances of finding a decent position? Thoughts, anyone? The Costa Rica thing is only a possibility at this stage, and I'd like to have as much information as possible before making my decisions. |

February and March are the best times to look for work for April, when the school year starts and there's lots of change when people leave, and people from conversation schools try to change jobs too.
Late in the year, November, December and going into January isn't a good time at all.
Since you're thinking about the summer, you're fine. Go to Costa Rica, have a blast and then come this way. |
