I will be attending school for an ESL certificate and spending some time in Thailand next month. I plan on taking a digital camera but I will not have a laptop or any other computer. Will I be able to upload photos on computers in internet cafe's. Will I have to bring along the software included with my camera or will most cafes have some sort of software that will facilitate this transfer so I can email photos home.
Thanks

Kevin

Most of the bigger ones ( and some of the smaller ones ) will have a card reader somewhere for the different cards. Odds are they will also have a cd burner so you have a copy other than on the card.

The likes of ACD See - a photo editor - is pretty much standard fare in many places as well. But it wont do any harm to bring your particular software with you.

Dont know about that. Depends how long you are out here. Anyway, why do you need more than 2 memory cards?

100B to burn a CD or store them constantly on memory discs costing XXXXB?

CD please. apart from anthing else, less liable to lose them and its easier to send pictures on. You dont need to rely on a card reader being in place. And you can write on CDs telling what you have. Smile

$$ per meg, CD is definately a lot cheaper.

But for <$100 you can pick up TWO 512M cards and add that you to your current collection of memory. Sounds like the trip is only for a month or a bit more. I don't know how prolific of a shooter or what file size pics you normally take.

But that might tide you over for a full month or so.

Or you can take a cheap USB card reader or, if your camera supports, a USB cable and then mail your pics to gmail or wherever and not have to worry about which version of cd writer they have installed.

Or just burn them on CD.

Has anyone posting in this thread actually done this before? I have.

You only need your card, no software, and they'll be pleased as a peach to burn it onto a CD for you at a nominal charge (100B or so). This service is available in every Thai town I've ever been in (but not every single internet shop / photo store -- perhaps 70% of them, though) and even in some of the shithole places I visited in Cambodia.

It's a good idea to buy a 512MB card, though, so you don't waste too much space on the CD -- if wasting CD space bothers you. 512 is more than enough space if your camera takes anything around 4megapixel pictures or less -- your battery will run out before your card runs out of space.
