Just wondering if anyone has actually had any problems bringing dvd's back into Canada. I have a pretty large collection (100+) and want to keep a some of the covers when I leave. Not sure if it is worht while. Has anyone had any problems with this?

Pirate dvds?

Pack the covers separately from the disks, which will look like normal data disks. There are HUGE fines *possible* if you get caught with the pirates.

Real dvds? No problem.

I've noticed that it seems not many people have replied to this.

I'm afraid I can't talk about taking them to Canada, but I can talk about taking them to half a dozen other places. I really think customs have better things to care about than pirated discs. (As long as it doesn't look like you're smuggling them in to sell!) I'd get a CD "book" for them, with the slip sleeves. Make sure it's one that can hold a lot. They'll just be a small part of your overall luggage then.

Well, haven't got fined for DVD's... yet
But I have had a huge fine for importing an 'erhu'.
You know, one of those chinese violins.

Bloody thing cost me 15 yuan on the streets, and another 121 Euros at customs... and it got confiscated.
I shouldve known of course, it had snakeskin on the front.

So, then i asked those guys about illegal CD's as well, since I was there anyway, and they said that if you carry more than 6 illegal copies, you get fined a lot for every CD extra. This can get ugly if you've got a whole bag full.
Just take em out of the plastic, put em in a CD-bag, and they wont bother you. (I sent some covers home by mail, couldnt send DVD's themselves)

Same goes for fake clothes, just take it out of the wrapping. Wear your fake clothes, and as long as you don't have 10 North Face Jackets ready for re-sale so to speak, you wont have a problem.

Mind you, no guarantees here, if customs wants to make problems, they can. Just look as inconspicuous as possible.
Also, don't take empty bullet shells, they're considered part of a weapon here, (oh btw, I come from liberal Holland) and you will get fined.

Then again, I have boarded a plane once with a knife on my belt (fluke, unintentional) and carried two large samurai swords in my backpack, no problem as long as they were covered up...

Regards,
Dajiang
