Does anyone (Canadians in particular) have any experience with working holiday visas? What types of jobs are available for those without university degrees (but who are currently enrolled in university)? I have read that those on WHVs can't work in bars/clubs... but will they pay you 'under the table' anyway?
Thanks

I know Nova will hire you part-time. There were 2 people in the interview I went to who were in that situation. |

There will always be someone willing to pay people under the table for work, whether you have a work visa, a working holiday visa, or nothing except your passport. Just know this...get caught doing illegal activities (like bar work on a WHV) and the penalties are pretty strict. Fines (up to 3 million yen), detention for up to 21 days without a lawyer or translator, deportation (you pay, of course), and being blacklisted for coming back to Japan for 5-10 years.

Not much, especially if you don't speak Japanese very well. What are you interested in vs. not interested in? Waitressing? Computer programming? Hotel bell boy? You are still going to need a fair amount of Japanese in most cases. |
