I live in Zhuhai and am coming in to shop for a day. I have only been to Hong Kong twice and don't know my way around at all. Last time I went to a department store and couldn't find what I wanted. I would like to buy a simple pair of high heels without pointy toes or gaudy Chinese-looking fringe or other embellishments. I would also like some flats which would look nice with pants for work-black is okay. I could also use a good pair of sports shoes- I would prefer soccer/football shoes but cleatless. This is for a specific form of exercise- not for football/soccer. I am not worried about aesthetics or gender for the sports shoes if I can find the ones I mentioned. This will be tough because I don't even know what soccer/football shoes should look like except that they usually have cleats! Any ideas with directions? I would also like to find some stockings/nylons in a larger size. The ones I find here have a fishnet crotch and are labelled maternity. I know, it makes me laugh so hard snot comes out my nose!
While I am at it, I would like to find some used book shops with good selections.
But I NEED shoes.
Thanks in advance! |

Hope this is not too late for you Hesterprynne, but I have just been to this little bookshop tucked away halfway up the esacalator route (from Queen`s to robinson rd) . It is called `Flow Organic Bookshop`between Lyndhurst st and Hollywood rd. Open from 12 noon to 7 pm. |

Can't help you with shoes I'm afraid but Flow is a great bookshop, easy to find just off the escalator. On the first floor above a place called Cafe Siam.
Also near Flow, straight down the escalator to the bottom, is another second hand book store. If you go to the bottom of the escalator on Queen's Road then you're right opposite Central Market. The road down the side of the market is something like Victoria Street or Queen Victoria Street. Go down there to number 11 and the 2nd floor is a regular second hand book shop while on the 4th floor they have a discount 'everything $10' book section. It's called Collectables.
Happy shopping, good luck with the shoes. |

Any sports shop will have the cleatless football boots, most football in Hk is played on tarmac or astroturf so there are plenty of cleatless football boots available. Mens size 43 should be no problem, a women's shoe in that size may be more difficult, maybe try shopping malls where a fair proportion of gweilos shop, like Pacific Place in Admiralty? |
