Hello eslers,
Anybody work at a school in GZ that needs a teacher for next semester. I was just told my school would be cancelling my contract as they can't renew my Z Visa for the next semester. (Basically I think they don't want to send me back to the US to apply for the z visa properly, so they're just paying me my full year's bonus and cancelling the contract). I want to get a job in GZ, but nothing I've seen pays more than what I'd make here (8,000 RMB/mo). I'd also prefer to hook up a job through the esl regulars as the school can be vouched for and not one of those schools that exploit people. I prefer to work 5 days a week at most (no saturday or sunday classes) and I don't like to work at night. I'm an 8 to 5er. I can teach primary students, but I much prefer middle schoolers or above if possible. I'd prefer a job where one teaches in just one or two schools and not a million schools with hellishly long commutes in between. Oh yeah, I'm a 6 monther too. I've already done 6 and I don't plan on staying a second year, or to clarify, I don't want to be locked into a second year. Let me know if you've got anything. |

Hi
I haven't seen anything going on since I arrived here a few days
ago, but had been in Shenzhen for a long time.
If u do hear of anything let me know, though I am not looking
for full time Z visa type work-rather-something like private students
or small groups which are private-
as we are opening up a new company in HK (trading)-
so I will be busy with that instead of teaching full time this year. |

You can try this school. It pays up to 13000 rmb a month. The school is in a small township in Dongguan. Call Maria on 0769 8888860.
I know 3 teachers who are working there. Its a Taiwan school. No evenings or weekends everything is paid for including airfares back home.

Dongguan is about one and a half hours away from GZ by coach. The payroll level there is pretty high. but the city ambience is much less metropolitan and, to be frank, I don't lke it. |

Dong Guan is pretty much a pit. They do have some nice hotels and a supermarket where you can get some stuff that is hard to find. I would never want to live there.
I would be interested to know what most teachers in Guangzhou are making. Anyone care to share? |

You are pretty late to this thread, my friend: I responded to one troll who called himself "canadaguy060". His various posts - all adverts for a website - have been eliminated recently!
And, by the way, a propos DONGGUAN:
NO, THIS IS NOT A PIT!
It is a conglomeration of various TOWNSHIPS, some more intersting than others; Dongguan city proper is fairly nice, clean and peopled by welathy migrants and a lot of Taiwanese. Wozal has been there for, I think, 3 years, and I visited her there; it is a truly congenial area.
The downside is that hardly any employer takes you on board legally.
Outlying townships such as CHANGPING or HUMEN are a different kettle of fish. I positively know that HOUJIE, though close to the Dongguan downtown area, is not the safest place, with muggings apparently being a normal routine thing. And the local "international school" that goes under the name of "Cambridge" and "OXford" is mismanaged by crooks. |

Thanks Roger,
I have lived here nearly 3 years and it is great. I live in the nice part, Dongcheng. It takes me under an hour to get to GZ. I earn very good money I am driven to work and back and I have a legal visa.
As Roger said Dongguan is made up of a lot of small villages. We have excellent western supermarkets and a great Indian restaurnat opened a few months ago. Roger if you come to visit me I will shout you a meal there.
Cheers Woza |

Houjie? Did I see that right?
I've worked in Houjie and at the very same place Roger referred to in his post, 'Oxford' and 'Camford'. The school is not recognized or authorised to hire foreign teachers but do and they don't treat the teachers too bad...I mean it could have been worse (that's not to say that teachers are happy there). The pay is good, work hours long and living conditions poor.
The school does not arrange visas etc....hey but what am I doing talking about Oxford?
Houjie is more like a small settlement that has almost everything, practically around one street...a small yet pleasant place, I'd say. The rest of the place has nothing to be said about and yes, it's part of Dongguan city.
If someone were to offer me a job in Dongguan, and Houjie in particular, I'd take it.... |

Professor Moriarty and Hesterpryne,
Kind words, indeed!
Seasons change, equations change...trash becomes treasure and self-righteous donors become beggars!
You need not believe me
Look around and you will see... |
