On NBC News all they ever talk about is poor old "INDIA" & SRI LANKA" were people died what about Thailand, Indonesia, Maldives, Malaysia,
In INDIA =9,682 died.
In Sri Lanka = 30,615
But in INDONESIA = 113,306 died more then any of theses two Countries put together above.
but what makes me mad to read every were i look on the web News it always says about SRI LANKA.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In Sri Lanka, a new wave of pain.
He is a father, husband, and the only psychiatrist for 1.3 million of the world's most traumatized people. His roving practice along this island nation's eastern shore stretches over 150 miles, all of it devastated by last week's tsunami.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh hear we go again SRI LANKA,
More News
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Secretary of State Colin Powell arrived in Sri Lanka, where more than 30,000 people died, to inspect tsunami-devastated areas in the south and hold talks on relief efforts.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I will leave it there.
I know the Tsunami was bad for everyone but the way the News talk about it, it seen only two countries was in it path?.
The only country I don't like in the world is INDIA and its people. there i said it. what I mean is they are more rude then the Chinese. but Because I don't like them it doesn't mean I wish this on them.
What is your Say?. |

It's cynical to say, but India had been under the Soviet sphere of influence during the cold war. Since the US has been arming Pakistan, perhaps Powell's visit is a useful way to drum up some business for the arms industry.
It probably wouldn't be prudent to go on a similar mission to Indonesia.
Ot perhaps the Indian and Sri Lankan lobby is strong in Washington. |

Hi Guy Courchesne. how are you.
How did the new year go for you?.
maybe you are right about Sri Lanka & Washington. i see the US send a war ship to Indonesia, carrying the food why not a cargo ship? maybe the US saw all the oil dums on the ground.

I TOTALLY agree with you, British. I have been saying the same thing for the past week to pretty much anyone who will listen. They hardly every talk about Indonesia, where so many more people have died. Why, why, why do they keep talking about SRI LANKA?!?! Why are they talking so little about Indonesia?!?!?! Argh! Okay, that's enough from me for now. Just had to vent |

I'd say you shouldn't get all your news coverage from one source (in this case NBC). There is a little-known media outlet called "CNN" which has covered every country affected by the tsunami extensively.

Oil in Indonesia? The U.S. send aircraft carriers not to carry food, but to carry helicopters to chopter in the food! Why not a cargo ship? From where? Los Angeles? Do you have any idea how long a cargo ship would take from anywhere in the U.S. to Indonesia? The majority of food provided in the tsunami-stricken regions (from outside countries) was flown in.

You clearly live in a bubble. Or, you don't have access to CNN. If NBC isn't talking about Indonesia, CHANGE the channel. |

It is true, here in the states you have to reach out from any one news source to hear anything about India. Why do you ask? Maybe because most of the Americans were in Thailand... thus most of the American news is in Thailand, and that is where we are sending more of our aid. It is travel season... and many Americans were planning trips to the area... gotta love the news sources... they're so reliable it's amazing! (please tell me you sense the sarcasm) If you want to know the whole story, you need to do your own research. As I can see most of you have... I agree, it is still very frustrating... well good thing things are going to change from the last four years...
oh wait... |

No, I don't live in a bubble and I do have access to CNN, which is mostly what station I have been watching to get coverage on the tsunami. It is true that they HARDLY talk about Indonesia. It seems that any news station you watch, they are talking about Sri Lanka the most and Indonesia the least. |

As others have mentioned, perhaps you need to check out multiple news soures. I think the amount of coverage being devoted to Indonesia is in proportion with the number of deaths; I've seen plenty of stories regarding the destruction there. |

More news.
Ann Curry, the News Anchor for NBC News' "Today Show," has been reporting from the devastated region all week, beginning with her first reports from Thailand on Monday.
Curry describes the scenes of devastation, as well as the scenes of hope, as more and more aid begins to reach those who need it most in Sri Lanka. = "Yes give all the Aid to Sri Lanka".
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BANDA ACEH, Indonesia - Two weeks after a tsunami slammed into coastlines around the Indian Ocean, thousands of bodies were still being pulled out of the mud in remote villages, as the official death toll from the catastrophe rose above 150,000. = " I think they need it more".
Sri Lanka again.
Sir Lanka, where more than 30,000 people were killed and 800,000 are homeless, was the second stop on Annans tour of nations afflicted by the worst natural calamity in modern times.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Indonesia's rising toll
Indonesia on Saturday raised its estimated death toll by more than 2,700 to 104,055, pushing the overall count to 150,578. Indonesias toll has risen sharply in recent days as teams of rescuers recover bodies from previously inaccessible regions, many on the western coast of northern Sumatra, close to the epicenter of the magnitude-9.0 quake.
The toll of those missing was on the rise as well: close to 5,000 in Sri Lanka and 10,000 in Indonesia. Officials said some people trying to find loved ones were only now reporting them as missing.
See more in Indonesia are dead or missing.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The sum donated by Americans after the tsunami which took more than 147,000 lives, mainly in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India and Thailand is still much smaller than the $2 billion raised for the families of the nearly 3,000 people killed in the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
I still don't believe that it was terrorism on 9/11 it was to make people believe it was.
Encouraged by President Bush, who made a $10,000 personal donation and declared that "the most important contribution a person can make is cash," = whats $10,000 to you Bush?. |

british--You are right not to have believed the smoke and mirrors caper of 9/11. It was terrorism, though, in its own way: here in Latin America we call that kind Terorismo del Estado (Terrorism by the State--towards its own people). It was designed to scare the US people into accepting whatever kind of barbarity the Bush Gang wanted to commit against the other countries of the world.
CNN is not news. It is US government propaganda.
You have to work pretty hard in the US to put together--from a variety of sources--news that lets you know what's going on in the rest of the world. It helps if you speak a few other languages, too. |

Read the rules of the forum posts before doing this again please. You wouldn't want to be barred now would you?
I was responding to the OP. I didn't say that Powell didn't go to Indonesia. In the context of what I wrote, I said it wouldn't be prudent to go (read: drumming up arms sales).
British...had a great New Year...hope you did too. |

moonraven". thank's you are right.
weapons of mass destruction.
July 11, 2003 - The familiar drip, drip, drip of a brewing political scandal echoes through the power centers of Washington and London these days as the Bush administration and the government of British Prime Minister Tony Blair are pelted daily with increasingly pointed questions about the case they made for going to war against Iraq. The admission that the president made an apparently false allegation against Iraq in his State of the Union address was supposed to help put the issue to rest. Instead, it reopened fissures inside the administration and in Blairs government over the validity of their case for war.
THE FAILURE to turn up chemical or biological weapons in Iraq.
Thats ture born to lie.
What country will be next for oil? how will Bush & Blair lie to us again? what will America do again to it country to go to war for the price of oil?
Here in china my students call the war in Iraq. "Blood for oil". = yes they are right.
I remember then Bush said to the UN when we sale the oil we will rebuild Iraq. = WHEN BUSH?
Soon Iraq will be like Afghanistan created by the Bush family father like son. |
