Have you ever attended a meeting that was particularly badly run, the kind of meeting that Scott Adams could use in a Dilbert comic strip? If so, describe your experience, avoiding names and obvious references, in one paragraph maximum. I'll start us off...
On the surface, my first team meeting looked well organized with a clear agenda. I was a little nervous because I wanted to make a good first impression, so I spent a couple of hours preparing for two small presentations I was to give. The room was arranged in U-formation and we were all Westerners. The first presentation involved going around describing our projects for the coming year. My turn came. I had just started talking when the coordinator's phone rang. I waited for some signal to let me know if I should continue or wait. When none came, I continued. Finally, we both finished about the same time and he just went on to the next person as if my input was actually just an exercise in futility. The second presentation involved talking about a subject we were interested in. I was just getting ready to start when he said that we didn't have time to continue. Then he relented, gave me a few minutes and left the room as I gave my presentation. Finally, he returned and trashed another coordinator and her team. I really felt like a valuable team member as a result of that meeting... |
