I accidentally found an old thread yesterday in the China job-related forum (and can't find it again) about getting other work, besides teaching. People talked about decent money for occasional short term jobs like proofreading and voice recording. How much of this work is available in Taiwan? |

In short, I don't know because I don't live there. But since nobody else is posting you might want to try posting this on Forumosa.com http://www.forumosa.com/taiwan/home.php
It's a more general Taiwan site with forums.
Good luck! |

Work like that is definitely available. Instead of posting on Forumosa, check out the classifieds. If I wanted, it would be possible for me to get out of teaching altogether here.
As a side note, I don't think I'd want to proofread for a living. I applied for a freelance proofreader job not long ago. They sent me this nasty long business piece that had been poorly translated and asked me to fix the grammar and fluency errors. I had no idea where to start. It was ten times worse than what my students submit to me for their compositions and 100 times more dry and boring. That was my first and last (I never want to do that again) experience with that line of work.
Voice over stuff comes up from time to time. Also TV stuff. Wanna be in a commercial? |

It helps to have experience and samples of your work when you apply. Nearly all the big Franchise chains write their books and make the accompanying CD's. Their is no shortage of this kind of work but it is next to impossible to gt an ARC for any kind of performance related field. The government of Taiwan views this kind of thing as undermining the local cultural values (corruption and lack of integrity). Using knowledgeable professionals for this type of work can cut the production cost in half. That would be your strongest selling point.
