Actually that's not really so strange I wanted to ask if anyone knows if wine is expensive in Japan? Is it? I really do want to know because I like to drink a glass every now and then. If someone could tell me how it compares to Canada I would appreciate it a lot. Thanks.

All I've seen is Smirnoff Ice, but there are loads of other fruity coctail beverages to choose from.

So does sour. Lemon Sour (remon saua-), strawberry sour, I think there's an apple sour, melon sour etc. Normally you drink it at the karaoke bar, but you can often get it at enkai (dinner and a whole lot of drinking party) places too.
Don't let the name fool you. THere is nothing sour about a strawberry sour. It's sweeter than the girliest girl-drink (Wildberry Cooler) in Canada. |

I've found both expensive and cheap wine in Japan. It all depends on where you go and what you want. Do some exploring and you should be able to find some quality, inexpensive stuff. Most of the wines I saw were imported from European countries.
On a side note, if there are any Drambuie lovers out there, Drambuie is dirt cheap in Japan. For a 750mL bottle in the States, I can't pay anything less than $40-45. I found the same size bottle in Japan for 1100 yen, about $10.
I love Drambuie. |

Chu Hi is an alcoholic beverage. You can find cans of it everywhere in varying brands. There are a range of flavors. Off the top of my head: Strawberry, lemon, grape, peach, calpis (hooray!), melon, etc. Whenever a group of us goes out, the girls always drink chu hi. It's a pretty decent drink if you like the fruity stuff. I prefer the peach one of any of them, but I'd take a beer over all of them any day. |

Chu hi is kind of the equivalent of a wine cooler or wine spritzer (sans wine--its alcohol content comes from sho chu). YUMMMMMMMY!

As others have mentioned, Chu-Hi is fantastic. Basically a carbonated alcoholic drink that comes in cans.
Usually 5 to 7 percent alcohol...Chu Hi is always a lot of fun, to see what I mean, drink 2 or 3 cans really quickly.... |

Warning about Chu-Hi:
It is usually sold in a can-just as Coke or Sprite is sold. I knew of a teacher at an International school who wasn't paying close enough attention to her students- unintentionally allowed her 5 yr old student to drink a can that his mom packed in his school lunch. The mom was new to Japan and didn't realize it had alcohol in it when she bought it. The kid was ok-they took him to the hospital as soon as another teacher had noticed what he was drinking. He was more frightened than anything else.
Also- a lot a kaeroke bars have "all-you-can-drink Chu-hi, with like 20 different flavours, good for the girls! However, the beer is at least 200 yen each. |
