Im new to GDA and looking for a job and an apartment. I have a few leads on these (thank you to all who have sent me emails!!!) I am also looking for information on gyms and classes here. I dont need anything fancy but would like to join something to keep my mind and body well. Anybody go to a great gym or know of some great classes (step, pilates, yoga, running...) I know of one yoga place by Chapultapec and havent gone yet... Or Spanish classes and-or tutors...
Also, I am definately up to meeting new people here. I have a few old friends from back in the day but I would like to get out and be more social...

Hi gNat,
I work and live as well in GDL for more then a year now. I live in the part that is called Tlaquepaque. Here I know many gyms and other thing to do. Im not that familiar with the center of GDL.
If you are interested in Tlaquepaque is a Cultural center where they give all kinds of courses. From gitarlessons to Pottery. Costs are about 45 pesos a month and inscription is 90 pesos. Really cheap.
Also they have several places here were they give Yoga. It all depends where you are staying in GDL.
We are actualy planning to climb the not active volcano from Colima some where in the end of january. If you want to come along just send me an email
Because we have a school for spanish we have a lot of foreigners where we sometimes have a drink with. If you interested just let me know.

Hey
The climbing sounds great. The only thing that would stop me is if I get offered a job at UNIVA and they want me to work during those days. Can you please send me more info (dates, cost, itinery etc...) Is there a university in Tlaquepaque (sp?) or a good school that pays well. I was offered a position at Vancouver language school but the only pay 45pesos an hour. It looks like I have a job at UNIVA but the idea of living in a more cultural area sounds appealing. Would love to meet some others living here and go for beers. Obviously my schedule is more pen than yours as Im not working yet...so let me know when a group will be going out for drinks. I would love to join you.
I am interested in knowing more about opportunities to work and live in Tlaqeupaque (again sorry for the horrible spelling).

Hi gNat,
I had to move the weekend for climbing the Volcano to the first weekend in February. Totally forgot that the last weekend is my birthday party. So this is going to be on a saturday or a sunday or both.
About the payment. 45 pesos is not a bad average for a english teacher. You never going to be rich being an English teacher in Mexico. I know a school that pays a 100 pesos an hour but these give english to business and you have to work horible hours and travel for hours through the city without being paid for this.
I hope they offered you a better salary at the University. There isnt one in Tlaquepaque but they have one in Guadalajara. I'm giving a kind of party at the roof of our school on the 29th of January. Your more then welcome to join in. Going to be around 9 in the evening. You can find the address of my school on my internet page at the bottom of this post.
If you need any info on finding jobs you can always drop in and maybe I can help you with finding some.
