My dream is to teach English in Latin America, but with all the courses offered in Prague, I'm wondering about going there first to get my CELTA and then traveling to Latin America to look for a job. It seems like a great reason to live in europe for a brief stint.

With my schedule (I'm graduating college in May and have an internship that will end in September) i probably won't be able to finish a course until late October, which seems like rotten timing for getting a job in Latin America (the countries i'm most interested in are panama, chile and argentina). I'd love to know what davescafe people think.

Am I wasting my time and throwing off my schedule by going to europe? Would I benefit more, especially with job placement, by getting my certification in latin america? Is there any chance of getting a brief position in Eastern Europe, or supporting myself with privates until christmas time, and then waiting until the new year to go to latin America?

(more about me in case it's relevant: I'm from the chicago area, go to school around dc, and have volunteer esl experience. i've also been to latin america a few times, so i'm not worried about easing into the culture or anything)

In Latin America and Europe, you'll have a hard time finding a short term position. If you decide to go to Prague, why not leave an open schedule so you can stay on longer if you like it? More job opps will present themselves to you that way.

A lot of traveling can be hard on the pocketbook...don't know what kind of resources you are bringing to the show.

One pair of teachers I know from the UK came to Latin America on a 5 year mission. They started in Mexico, then went to Costa Rica, then to Chile before cutting their trip short and going home to London. They spent 6-8 months in each place, always moving by land, except for the hop from Central America to South America, where you have to go by boat or plane due to some Panama-Colombia border restrcitions I hear.
