Back from Africa my daughter is hearing voices. Back from a trip of 3 weeks in the southern of Africa where the atmosphere was not too good. The only focus of the tour organisation was her money....She constantly had to fight against those money grabbers.
Now she is hearing voices and get horrible sensations. She is telling me that she has the impression that the voice is from someone, rude and nasty to her. Do you know what could have happened?
She has her feet on the ground but something wrong is going on. She is getting the support of a social worker and of a physician. She was tested negative to any sorts of drugs and there is no obvious reasons and solutions from the doctor/specialist who is supporting her.
Hope to hear from you all,
Many thanks

Hi,
Sorry to hear that. I am not qualified at all to say what might have happened -- but would like to ask have you considered asking your GP to refer your daughter to a counsellor?
As I say, I am not qualified in these things, but it could be that something specific happened during the trip which is making your daughter traumatised, or triggering some underlying condition. Or, there could be an underlying condition which is surfacing now, regardless of anything happening recently.
Your social worker would be in a much better position to explore this. Could you ask him/her to make a referral to a specialist?
Good luck.

I would consult a doctor immediately.
Here is a personal story, not many know:
When I was 16 years old, I started hearing voices. I am a pretty intelligent human being, so I knew something was wrong.
I immediately saw my family doctor, and he asked me a lot of initial questions tring to pin-point the cause.
But as I am a bit of a "not let it go" kind of book-worm, and I had already researched psychological conditions that create a sensation of "hearing voices".
There were two potential causes: Schitzophrenia or Schitzophrenaform.
I fell into the Schitzophrenaform catagory because I had previous been a marijjuanna smoker and a coffee drinker.
14 years later I no longer heard voices (haven't since perhaps over 12 years ago). Basically it was Schitzophreniform brought on by using marijjuanna and coffee in excess. I haven't smoked pot in over a decade and have avoided caffiene in all forms for over 4 years.
Hopefully it's the latter and not the former, which is permanent. |

I am very sorry to hear of your daughter's condition. In Morocco, where I live, what you describe might very well be consider possession by jinn (malevolent spirits) or the victim of magic. I know this sounds very weird, but it happens here and people are treated by exorcism, not medicine. I am not suggesting you rule out a medical condition or some form of poisoning, but you might also consider this possibility. As to how it might be treated in the States, I really couldn't say, but the Catholic Church these very days is training priests in what it considers the orthodox techniques of exorcism.
Sincerely

All,
Many thanks for you post, there are a lost of reasons why someone is suddenly hearing voices. In my daughter's case we have been warned of the serious side effect of medicins. Medecins can make things worse and have serious long term effects.
Agony is the word.....
Kindest regards

Hi,
does the problem of hearing voices with your daughter still persist?
I accidentally stumbled over this forum. Having lived in several African countries for over 12 years, I've lots of experience with these kind of troubles.
If the problem is still there, I will write more.
Best greetings |

Hi there
Dont worry your story is heard all too often
My husband is nigerian and i have just retuned from Nigeria .
I am actually a christian but dabbled in things before i was saved which made me more aware of the spritual and i think something spiritual may have happened.
please find out WHO your daughter met
WHO she ate with
Where she went
record any strange people she felt uncomfortable with
It is imperitive you do something quickly, Though u may not be a christian I promise i wont preach, i am not that way inclined, but it is something out of your control and i would ask you to go see a pastor who u trust NOT a doctor, ( be very careful about this)
my husband is still in nigeria i may be able to pass contacts if you need them |
